Review: The Darkness’ “The Longest Kiss” is a Rock N’ Roll Masterpiece

The Darkness hit us with another banger in “The Longest Kiss,” a song that feels like a classic rock n’ roll track. Opening with a bluesy kick, the track quickly pivots into a British stomp reminiscent of Queen’s greatest hits, complete with a catchy, intricate melody. Justin Hawkins’ vocals are on point—sweet, pristine, and full of cheeky energy, and a bit of Freddy. The amazing guitar licks complement his voice beautifully, sliding in between the verses and driving the track forward. The song builds up with melodic twists and crescendos into a rolling guitar solo that would make any classic rock fan grin. Packed with nods to 80s hair rock, “The Longest Kiss” is everything we miss about rock n’ roll, reminding us why The Darkness are among the last true carriers of the rock torch.

Could this track signal the return of the genre we’ve all been longing for? We certainly hope so.
