NSE INDIE DISCO HITS OF 2020: ‘Litvar’ blast onto the scene with a fast Indie guitar burst of pop sensibility and early U2 energy on the boppy “Hi, I’m Andy”

As someone who always grew up loving her parents’ music, I never thought I’d get to see any garage bands in my own generation. For a long while, it seemed like they were a thing of the past, like today’s world no longer permitted or embraced passion and effort, but wanted something pitch perfect.

But it turns out I was wrong. Recently, I had the pleasure of discovering a young American duo called Litvar (a combination of the words “light” and “variation”), consisting of Joe Lemieux on drums and Rex Thrustan on vocals and guitar.

And I am not kidding when I say Litvar are the perfect garage band of our generation. It’s not even in my imagination. Just check out their video for their latest single, “Hi, I’m Andy”. Don’t worry, I’ll wait.

You back? Great, see what I mean? This video, which basically has the two youths playing in a cramped garage has such an amazing vibe. It’s crazy and erratic, but what makes it work for the audience is that both Lemieux and Thrustan are clearly very enthusiastic about their music. It’s clear to see the passion radiating from their playing, their movement and their words.

While the song itself has something undeniably old school about it, it manages to stay relevant and touches upon some very interesting and relevant topics, including the Covid-19 pandemic.
Better yet, it’s a song that kids these days can relate with. People in their teens and twenties. It’s a song that talks about all the things you need to put up with growing up, like teenage love, unstable friendships, school, figuring out what you’re gonna do with your life, not to mention the insane world of today.

It’s very easy to connect to it, but what I like particularly about Litvar, at least as far as “Hi, I’m Andy” is concerned, is that they don’t make it too heavy. Sure, it’s a song about the many difficulties you encounter in life, but it’s not difficult per se.

As a matter of fact, it’s rather light-hearted and fun, allowing you to acknowledge that your life feels like an insane roller-coaster ride, while not allowing that to get you down.

What more can I say? It’s a great song.
